FLOWERS ON YUGAMBEH COUNTRY v: Mountain

 From the series FLOWERS ON YUGAMBEH COUNTRY, this work emerges in response to the national discourse surrounding the Voice to Parliament referendum, a public vote that sought to establish a formal mechanism for Indigenous communities to advise Parliament on matters affecting their communities. The outcome of the referendum prompted the artist to reflect on the ongoing challenges of recognition, justice and reparations for Australia’s First Peoples, and to assert the importance of honouring Indigenous sovereignty and enduring relationships to Country. Within this work, the mountain functions as a symbolic form, evoking both cultural continuity and the long path that remains toward genuine recognition and reparation.
